Musicians Set Up Anti-RIAA Concerts

December 20th, 2001

The Sacramento Bee has an article about musicians raising money to battle the record companies. Some big names are set to perform: Elton John, No Doubt, The Eagles, Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Stevie Nicks. Dexter Holland of The Offspring said “It’s about time for artists to take control of their work and how it is presented to our fans”. Very good.

From something reported earlier, artists shouldn’t necessarily expect royalties because they get their money up front in the form of advances. But, if I were a major label artist, I would not want my work to be sold on copy protected CDs or pitched through some ridiculous online service that doesn’t let people enjoy the music as much as they could.

Well..i sure feel good that the RIAA is helping to keep the likes of Britney Spears greedy a fatty..and spotty pretentious little brat..and well..i rly to object to us p2p users being likened and hunted down like terrorists…it’s all bs..i am a singer..not famous..not losing any money by letting ppl listen to my work..even if i was filthy rich..i wouldn’t be moaning about a few dollars lost..when the prospect of a few thousand ppl hearing my work..when without p2p..they probably otherwise wouldn’t..same as for much of the music i have required..word of mouth and networking is how it works..and always will..i hope the RIAA gets lost up it’s own back end..and festers there..never to be found..’;-P Sam :)
