Err... actually, the news/feed reading space is more crowded than ever... most of the action is happening on the web rather than the desktop, but there's still been a lot of it. (And Newsgator bought both NetNewsWire and FeedDemon, thus bridging online and desktop worlds.)

There's plenty of action, but most of what people are doing still feels the same. (Maybe that's what you meant by "new work"? Lots of work is afoot, but not all of it would be considered "new")</description>
