Stephen Colbert at the 2006 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner
by Kevin Dangoor
Wikipedia has a great article about Stephen Colbert at the 2006 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. The reaction to Colbert’s routine from the media is interesting, because Colbert was definitely roasting the media in addition to the President. But, this is the age of the net. Even if the mainstream media decides not to talk about Colbert’s speech or show actual funny clips, millions have already caught the video online.
The wikipedia article was excellent, thank you for the link. I think that the “Colbert” incedent may be the “toppling statue” of the American peoples blind trust in the president. While most people are not even aware of the incedent, it is a symbol to me, that people are upset enough to insult the president to his face on national tv. While it may seem like a small thing, I have heard that the president won’t watch anything other than Fox news, or read books that are critical of his actions. This may be the closest he comes to actually hear criticism about him self.
