This past week’s MichiPUG meeting was fun and interesting (thanks, Stephan!), but the topic was not entirely Python newbie friendly. PyPy and Stackless are cool, but they are not mainstream.

For the June meeting (June 7 at 7PM, back at Arbor Networks), Carsten Haese will be giving a talk on a topic that is definitely mainstream: Python’s DBAPI. The DBAPI is like Java’s JDBC. It’s a database independent way to connect to databases and run queries.

Google at the McKinley Towne Center

When Google announced that they were going to employ 1,000 people in Ann Arbor within a few years, the local newspaper was all over it. It actually got to be a bit much. Still, from the perspective of someone working in tech here, it’s good to see a marquee name come to town. I snapped the picture above soon after the sign was put up on the still-under-renovation McKinley Towne Center, where Google Ann Arbor is currently housed.

Hi, Googlers!

Last summer, I reported on Mickey Hadick’s All Others Pay Cash, a comedy short that is likely the only one you’ll see that includes talk about Python web frameworks. Check out Mick’s new website which includes the entire AOPC video!
