The danger of ASPs revealed

PhotoPoint goes dark, draws concern – The online photo site has been unavailable for days, wreaking havoc with thousands of customers who store pictures on the popular site. [CNet] The article talks about people using PhotoPoint to store eBay auction pictures and pictures for unrelated sites.

Using a free service in a way that pretty much guarantees no revenue from that use is one way to put them out of business. And that’s the fault of the company, not the people who use it. (This also just goes to show: don’t use an ASP without retaining your own backups of your data!)
